At JLYC we are passionate about yoga because we believe that yoga offers tools to improve health, promote mental clarity, and foster emotional well-being and equanimity.
We practice and teach the Iyengar method of yoga, developed by renowned, living yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar of Pune, India. Iyengar Yoga is one of the world's most influential and widely-practiced methods. This method emphasizes correct alignment of all parts of the body within each asana (posture). This precision enables students to achieve maximum benefit.
Iyengar Yoga is designed to be adaptable to individual needs and abilities so that everyone can achieve the correct alignment regardless of current strength or flexibility. Anyone and everyone can gain a higher degree of relaxation and personal well-being through a consistent practice of Iyengar Yoga.
We are honored to be the B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Center of Portland. This honor was granted to us by Mr. Iyengar himself and we endeavor to uphold his highest standards of teaching.
